I believe i got the tip from reading one of Bill ***** posts and used Safelite.
I called them yesterday at 9am...they were here at 1030 today with the windshield and installed it.

basically 3 hrs...A LOT longer than it usually takes as the side moldings on the windshield were glued in by some previous owner/activity Most of the time was spent trying to nurse them off and then cleaning up the mess( to DREMEL). Of course im paying the guy and get my hands dirty in the job..just the way i am.

Bottom line
part...288.99
labor..60.00 ( i got my moneys worht out of that )
total...348.99

tax...22.39
TOTAL...371.38.

Nice thing is...this was done at my house! I didnt have to drive all the way over to the other side of town to have it done.!! GREAT SERVICE and i would highly recomend it.

Tip: get your self familiar with the way the trim molding comes off. Odds are the guy who does the job hasnt seen a 928 before. A Quick call to Jim and Tom at 982 intl solved that. Actually, if the side moldings werent glued on a call really wouldnt have been needed....we were pushing on the trim pretty hard and it wasnt moving so i figured there may be more to this than what we were seeing...typical 928ism right!

also..this window did NOT come with the antenna, so before he took the old one away i clipped the connecter off it and will wire my own if i need to. Heck i only listen to CDs and local stuff anyway.

some pics below....

a view i havent had in 4yrs of ownership!! crystal clear..no pits..cracks...blemishes!

Andrew, please place a small broken chunk of windshield in your shrine as i have a round trip drive to LA to do this week. I already have visions of that small pebble hurtling towards my car like a large asteroid!

Well, I had an install scheduled and they called and indicated that they no longer had the glass. Thanks to your images, I gave them the part number and lo and behold, they said they did have "that" glass. It doesn't have the inner shield, but I don't care. They indicated they will install it on Monday.

I'm not holding my breath, but it looks like your post may have saved the day for me.

Thanks
Rod

Also took the guy about 3x as long to install because of the old type of adhesive on the window. But now everything looks great. I would check them out if I were you! I am very happy with the quality.
When was this??? I just called Triumph and was told that they couldn't source the windshield.............
Although I did specify the "antenna" unit.

About a month ago, I had a Sukrit windshield installed in my wife's 944 and the glass was made in Estonia. By the way Elite Glass did the work in about an hour.

I have a related question...

Since many of us have 20+ y.o. windshields that just get sand-blasted over time, has anyone tried one of the windshield polishing kits or companies rather than replacing the glass?

I second Bigs question. I replaced my old windshield about a year ago because of sand from traveling across Arizona. Now the "new" one is showing signs of the same disease. I would certainly be interested to hear anything about glass polishing, both pro and con.
