Most new engines are filled from the start with synthetic these days. However the tolerances are tighter. I did the Dino oil in both of my stroker builds. The 1st build with too tall seal rings and pressed in liners didn't seal for crap, and this was build by a "professional engine builder". Other issues surfaced and I had to start over. My current build, with Nicasil and regular rings sealed well, and after my top end refresh, my 1st fill is synthetic.

I was warned against re-ringing my 911 Carrera 3,2 as everybody meant they would not seal properly and that the engine would be a heavy «oil-drinker» Well - i just followed the run-in instructions as per MotoMan, on an off the gas driving like a madman for the first 300 miles or so, ide about one tank of gas. It did not use a drop of oil after that. Highly recommend this procedure !
