Default Right and left rear cross drilled rotors? Got my answer, Thanks all.

I'm working on the car right now and need an answer ASAP. I recently purchased a set of cross-drilled rotors. Front's are definately right and left, but because of a supply issue the rears came in 2 separate shipments. But they are drilled in the same pattern. Now, 928 Int'l and 928 Spec. both list the rears as a single item (i.e. no right or left). So is this okay? Or do I need to sendone back? I want to paintthe hubs before I intall them, but obviously can't paint the rears if one has to go back.... HELP!

PET shows that the OEM rotors are the same for the R and L rear. IIRC my drilled rotors were the same L and R for the rear.

PET shows a L & R for the front and one single disc (x2) for the rear. p/n 951 352 041 01.

I have Zimmerman cross drilled front and rear - like Drnick, holes go in correct direction one side only. I checked this and had it confirmed as correct. The cooling channels on the rear discs are not directional unlike the fronts which are handed.

I noticed the same thing installing the zimmerman rotors. I saw the cooling channels were not directional and assumed they were correct. Mintex pads, new sensors and dampers.
The wheels I have show a lot, so it is kind of a cosmetic upgrade. The '87 had the original rotors and they were worn, but felt fine.

This is an interesting question because If you look in the WSM volume IV on page 46-12 they show slotted rotors with the slot moving in the direction of forward travel. Wouldn't this be applicable to Zimmerman type rotors also? Just wondering if it really makes a difference?

It is the direction of the cooling vanes between the two outer disc plates that matters in determining L or R.

In terms of visualization the interior vanes should be pulling air from the center of the hub not pumping air into the center. So, if the slots do the same thing...

Thanks Dave, then the photo above of Carl's front hub is correct and they would make a difference.

When I first bought my 928s I ran it for some months before the first service. At the service they showed me that the front rotors were fitted on the wrong sides and they swopped them to be correct.

I can not say that I noticed any difference when driving either before or after, never had any sign of brake fade.

When I drive hard I use the throttle, not the brakes....

put that on your shrine
