Default Gutting one of my 928s...

The rear interior came out easily - but it is easy when it is to be trashed and it basically shreds and crumbs away while removing...

There seems a fair amount of weight in the interior. This is photos of what has been removed from the rear of the 1986 1/2 (former Tammons car).
The other are of my school of 928s at the corner of the Main St of our little town. The building is a century old and the original town gas station on the carport side. The other side also ours - where all the parts gathers.
The charcoal one with the lights up is the 86 1/2 5 speed - currently with 4.5 16V and single turbo.

The dark green is my daily driver 1981 928S 5 speed. Needs fresh paint, but otherwise the tightest. From California, some Devek receipts for it and the previous owner was meticulous on detail maintenance. Each year had it flushed (distilled water and wetter wetter), had the suspension trued each year, piles of receipts - did none of the work himself. It ended up in the midwest - until I bought it. Has a Bola exhaust and OEM front spoiler (obviously also 81 rear spoiler.) Although a basically stock 4.7 except exhaust, with the low ratio 5 speed it is plenty quick.

Well wrapped behind the green one is a complete 1978 Euro 16V motor on a pallet.

The yellow one is actually an 84 928S 16V with automatic. That is the Mrs. car. It has an early edition fiberglass S4 body kit (nose, tail, side skirts, and rear wing, BBS wheels and an excellent stereo.) It is the one that turns heads. With LONG gearing, it has less acceleration but idles along at 70 mph just under 2,000 rpm. The Mrs has been pulled over 4 times (local, County and highway patrol) doing as much as 140 mph - never got a ticket. (They'd had us guys handcuffed over the hood!)

The black ones in the back are parts cars. The one on the left is a 1978 hardtop 5 speed - no motor, trashed interior and dinged fender. Trasmission still in it. While the 78 Euro motor would drop right it, it is just a donor car I bought mainly as spare parts transmission/differential and other stuff for my 81 928s. At the time, I figured it would only be the two 16v 928s plus this parts car - until I bought Tammons 86 1/2 turbo.

BTW, the 78 parts car came for Louisianna (picked it up with trailer) - hurricane would have gotten it otherwise...

The black one with the red hood is an 85 32V (automatic) that I bought basically for the 32V motor (local). As you can tell, the car's in rough shape - though all the parts are in the back of it. When picking it up, the fella asked if I wanted "that stuff over there" - which appears to be the fenders, spoiler/nose and light assembly for an old Gambella hideway headlight front end - and two cracked rocker panel skirts. Who ever had it went crazy with spray paint - badly - on the intake and other places...

The little red car in the back corner is a 1959 English Berkeley shell (hood, doors and truck stored inside). The were 500 pound fiberglass/aluminum mini 2 seaters powered by a 2 or 3 cylinder 2 stroke motor that sat in front of the front axle - driving the front wheels via a chain. Though top speed not much over 70, at 4 inches above the ground, feather weight and all the weight up front pulling it around, they were killers in extremely tight road courses, though well under powered. Actually, that was going to be my project - until I bought the first 928.

In the right side of the building is a growing stack of parts, spares etc.

Other than fresh paint and brightening, the dark green and yellow 928s are as they will remain. Actually, I like the earliest 928 wheels over the mid-year platter style (though those the most aerodynamically efficient), so might swap those onto the 81.)

When people roll through our little town, these 928s are what they see at the corner of Main St (red brick). Across the street is the police station, city hall and fire station. This old gas station has seen a lot of cars under its canopy in the last century.

The other two photos are of the tear out of the rear interior in the 86 1/2. It is basically dried out and rotted (leather and fiberboard). Rear center console, curiously, still good, though bad leather on the cover. Except for it and fashioners, the rest of the pile is for the dumpster.

The 86 1/2 is by my standards to be a major interior, exterior and mechanical upgrade and customization. Not a down to the bare frame with all wiring out etc... but it will be close to that. I have no interest in restoration, however. Restoration has always been a dull matter to me and never interested in looking at old restored to original cars...

Figure it will take some time to complete...

Attaching a test photo...
Can't be done. Mine is a professional camera that can not shoot in low enough resolution for this forum's standards. Tried downloading a free trial adobe photoshop and two other editing software - none have resolution reduction. Oh well. Maybe I'll look on ebay for an 8 year old consumer camera or something. Just have to look at your photos.

Default Redoing an interior...

Maybe I can, maybe can't, make a car. But I sure know how to tear one apart... This is most of what is behind the front seats of a 928... still have all the tar paper and goop to go and a few other this and that before going after the front...
Other than rear console and the fasheners, its all so much junk. Fully rotten. But no rust! No structural damage of any kind I can see.

Default For something completely different...

Stumbling through photo files, came across this sad story. I actually bought this (really) about 8 years ago for all of $600 dollars - though it obviously not in that condition - but completely whole and being all aluminum, no rust. Absolutely could not find any storage yard to take it, had 5 days to move it (1,200s away) and had to just walk away from it... An Irish double decker - meaning it would have fit under Interstate overpasses. Super two story motorhome - towing a 928 behind it (ha).
Anyway, I figured out a back assward way to minimize the photos. Ya'll may regret that.
(Just how many 928s can I demolish? - and send photos of each step of the destruction.)

Default Back on topic...

When I picked up the 85 32V 928, the fella threw in a set of fiberglass fenders, all the headlights hardware, front spoiler (cracked) and side rocker panels (also cracked) that look exactly like the front of this 928. Apparently a kit years ago and appeared on "Gambella?" s.
Hard decision. I actually have had this photo as my desktop image before that buy, but struggle with it. The 928 pop up lights are cool when up. I am not all that fond of how they look down, but that is what gives the SHARK look and defines the 928 unique to any other Porsche (or about anything else), so not sure whether to stick with the original light set up or go with this set up (hideaway).
Tough choice. Your suggestion? Original 928 headlights on a fairly radical 928 customization? Or go custom front with these hideaways?

Default 928 OEM lights or hideaways?

Which do you think? OEM pop up Shark lights or these hideaway headlights. (The fella I got the 85 32V has the slickest, REALLY sharp English drive (right hand) 300 hp black 928 Euro with near perfect interior - really sharp! Right hand drive would be absolutely cool!

Default On the otherhand...

Going with the hideaways at first was a given. It is unusual for a 928 (but not for cars in general, 928 lights are more unusual). Since I had the photo above literally as my decktop photo, obviously I like it.
But, then, this photo... with shark lights...
While I would not go quite as wide at the rear, this is awesome.
The color will stay a charcoal grey, a bit lighter though, sometimes called "gun gray"
I have labored over this decision of headlights...
