Default Guards Red Paint Scratch Fix

A few weeks ago my side molding was victim of a touch less car wash gone wild. I looked around to find a shop that would do it, but they kept insisting they needed to paint the whole panel, and then blend with the other panels (charging for each, of course).

After doing some research on RL, I came across paintscratch.com and ordered up a can of aerosol guards red.

The shipping was painfully slow, but when it got here I started in right away and you can see the results. I buffed it out with rubbing compound after the last photo and you can’t even see the difference. In fact, I think it’s better than what it was originally (the side molding always looked a shade too dark).

Nick,
Yep you can. I've done a fender and part of the roof on my guards red 85. Essentially get a one stage paint. Apply a couple of coats, wait a few days for the paint to cure and wet sand it progressively with 1500 then 2000 grit paper. Follow up with 3m perfect it II rubbing compound and an application of 3m imperial hand glaze. You would be amazed at the results.

I meant to tell you a couple of weeks ago that you should give wet sanding with 2000 grit a try on your car. A few panels might just have some life left on the paint once you remove that dead layer. The roof of my 85 came out looking new.

The nice thing I've noticed about Guards red is that match the color exactly does not seem as critical as with other colors. There always seems to be a shade of difference depending on the lighting conditions etc. Of course, I'm not saying that they need not be matched at all, but if you use the right code, chances are you will be surprised by the results.

Nice job. One of the nice features of the 928 is the separation of each panel. I think the only panels that don't have complete separation are the quarterpanels that need blending into the rockers. It makes repairs much easier especially if you are not too concerned about blending color into adjacent panels .
