Default Oil Pressure Gauge gone Wacky

My oil pressure gauge is pinned at the top while driving normally, but then drops to the very bottom under hard acceleration, flutters and returns to the top. Any thoughts about a fix? I was hoping to put Pod removal/contact cleaning on my "winter list" and not fool with it during this great driving weather. Any reason to fix the gauge right away?

Clean the sender connection and sender harness connection. (Next to the oil filter.) It's upside-down and collects oil and kruft.

Sounds like classic oil pressure sender gone bad symptoms! Couldn't hurt to try cleaning it first! But its a fairly cheap part at around $50?
