Jager speed mount installation help needed
Not to discuss the relative merits of the product, I am looking for help in installation.
I placed a 8" 2x8 under the oil pan, but when I jack it up, the engine does not move. The entire front of the car raises. Am I doing something wrong? The wood is smaller than the oil pan so its not hanging up on anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

I replaced my mounts the old fashion way... my engine did move a little before it lifted the car. but not much... your old mounts may be kind of rigid and crispy... maybe you need to bite the bullet and remove the cross member and replace the mounts... it made a big difference on my car.

Wow. Your lifting the car off the ground with an oil pan jack?? Are you sure that you're not displacing the engine a bit before the front lifts? The amount of movement you should expect is not much, barely more than the Speedmount itself.
I think Jager might suggest removing the airbox before jacking, so the motor can tip a bit, but I don't recall exactly. Anyway, you're surely not lifting the car because of airbox contact....
If you haven't double checked what's going on, I'd suggest that first. Certainly the oil pan is not a Porsche approved jack point, so you probably don't want to be lifting the car that way!
I put a Speedmount in my car awhile ago to bolster the mounts, but my mounts weren't totally shot and collapsed, so the motor lifted easily.
Let us know what you find.
I think Jager might suggest removing the airbox before jacking, so the motor can tip a bit, but I don't recall exactly. Anyway, you're surely not lifting the car because of airbox contact....

I installed a Speedmount 2 months ago. When you jack on the oil pan the front of the car does indeed rise up. Go slowly and removal of the airbox is probably wise to prevent impact with AC hoses etc. The front end will rise quite a bit but eventually the engine will rise enough to allow about 3/4" clearance between the cross member and the smooth rear portion of the oil pan. This is where you push your Speedmount. You may have to lube it and you may have to use a screwdriver to position it flush with the rear edge of the crossmenber. Now let the car down, replace the airbox. Start the engine and I think you'll find a large improvement in smoothness, assuming your motor mounts were collapsed to begin with.
Incidentally, I eventually repalced my mounts in the conventional manner using the Anchor 2698 mounts. The Speedmount is good the Anchors are excellent but it is 8 hours of back-breaking labor.
This is my experience with my 84 your results may vary.

The engine only goes up a little. You will need to lubricate the speed mount. Then you get to shove it/poke it/stab it in there with the rounded end of a crescent wrench or something similar. It's a pain.
Speedmounts do help, but new motor mounts are definitely worth it. I've tried it both ways.
