Alt. R.I.P.
Time for yet another alt.
8 total in 4 years -4 were defective rebuilds- .
Last one slowly died after an incredible downpour.
After a blazing, not a cloud in the sky, skin scorching day at work with only 10 minutes to quitting time a hellacious storm popped up and dropped boot high flowing water in our, basically, flat parking lot.
It was getting worse by the minute -hail due in minutes- so Pattycakes and Zack's White gurgled out of the lot and swam home.
Zack's alt. died within three day's and Pattycakes became intermittent on the low side of 12...then 11...then 10 volts today she started and just slowly lost voltage during a 20 mile run.
Lesson learned ... don't drive thru deep water.

John, do you know what company did the rebuilds? Were these Bosch rebuilds? Porsche rebuilds? Other?

I still have the original Paris out in the garage.
I agree ...junk.
Three rebuilds came thru Checkers Auto parts, one thru O'Riellys Auto parts.
Another lesson: Have em' load test the rebuilds before you leave the store, it saves time and aggrevation.
FWIW
All but one died before warranty expired.
I'd like to lose the smog pump and locate a high output chev or ford alt on that belt.
The Big Three seem to stand by their rebuilds so the cost difference might be worth it.
The Auto Parts rebuilds run about $120.00
