I was just going to take my wife to the movies, we got in and the car cranked great but would not fire. It was a considerate vehicle that misbehaved right in my garage. Well we took my wife's car, no problem.
I was guessing fuel pump relay and I had meant to make one of Wally's jumper cables anyway, so when I got home I looked at the fuses and relays. Fuse OK, pulled the VW relay from the fuel pump position (XXII if IRC) followed the diagram on the relay, inserted the new jumper. I turned the key, no fire. I threw the switch on the jumper and Presto: ignition.
Funny thing I had ordered a spare relay last week, so that will come in handy.
It's nice when an emergency procedure works like it's supposed to and if I hadn't read about it on this list I don't have any idea how I would have known about it. I would have had to call a tow truck.
Thanks,
Dave McK
