I run Hawk pads, which took to squealing horribly recently. I pulled them out, and predictably, with only 7k on them, they had plenty of material left one 'em. There were no silencers between the pads and pistons, so I used a goo substance I got at an auto parts store (note: cheap red stuff, not blue Permatex). It worked... for about a week!

Actually, the stuff did stop the clacking noise I was getting from the pads, so that's cool, and the squeal is no longer from both sides on the front, so maybe I just need to reinstall the goo on the squealing side and take better care when reinstalling the pads. I remember getting a bit frustrated with the wear sensor on that wheel. Or maybe I needed to let it set up longer. I dunno, but the stuff is messy and I don't really like having that junk smeared up in the caliper.

Seems that someone mentioned in another thread that there is an actual part (what 928 Int'l lists as "damping plates"?) that was the factory silencer. That would be worth looking into, especially since they are only about $5. Shoulda done that myself, and probably will yet!

Well this morning I pulled the calipers to check out the pads and there was plently of meat left on them but they were a bit chewed up - particularly the rear section of the fronts. I think I'll order a new set w/rotors for the set.

SOLUTION FOR SQUEAKY BRAKES:

Spray a ton of this stuff on the backs of the pads.

It works.

Squeaking brakes are caused by the pad moving around in the caliper. You need to secure them so that they DON'T move at all.

The above works very well for doing just that.

i bought all new brake parts (rotors, pads, etc) and attempted to do the work myself. I couldnt even get the first caliper off so i gave up and had a mechanic do it. My brakes have been squeeking ever since.
