Drove a 996 Turbo tonight. Wow. What a kick in the pants. That thing is wicked quick (but I think a SC/Turbo 928 is just as fast). But compared to my 82, that thing is unbelievable! When you punch it and the tubos kick in, it throws you into your seat. Ver cool!
The handeling is very tight and predictable, but the back end "feels" skitish compared to the 928. Probably cause I don't know the car very well.
For a "fun" car it would be great if I had the $120k. But if I wanted a car to drive around town and take some longer trips, I'd want the 928.
For that money, there are a lot of other Porsches I'd rather have. For instance, for $100k I could have a 993 Twin Turbo that would blow the doors off that 996T, plus have enough left over for a 928GT or an early 911S. Or, buy a Willhoit 928GTS and a brand new Cayman S.
