Default Lost Codes

I had a battery drain on me and replaced it, but guess what...radio needs a code now! Damn!
I checked all my documents and no codes. I called the 100 mile away Porsche dealer and they need the car to remove the radio to call in the numbers to get the codes.
Is there anyway to get the code without the service appointment?

After the 2d trip to the dealer in Germany (where I was stationed) I discovered that I could remove the radio -- like I was stealing it -- unplug the antenna and the master power connector and then unscrew the top panel. On the circuit board there was a small lithium cell battery like those batteries that are on computer mother boards. I removed that batter and gave it a few mionutes. When I put the battery back in everything worked again as if it were a new unprogrammed radio.

Now, whether there is another code that has to be entered in order to "program" the radio after it is cold booted, I don't know.

I hope this gives you a pointer or two. Did you try Googling for the situation. I think those theft deterent radios were pretty common in the 1980's. They were such a PITA for dealers that they went away after that and the removeable face plates came in vogue. Now the face plate locks get broken and your screwed again.

It was much simpler with my Jaguar XK120 Drophead. It didn't have a bloody radio at all.

Go figure.

Google the Manufacturer
List the Deck model Number
Search for the appropriate code

As with the majority of all audio manufacturers - A users manual may available in PDF format.

Good Luck

The radio code is listed on a white card that is the size of a credit card. So, knowing that, I'd check the owner's manual pouch again.

If all else fails, you can buy a refurbished head unit (that comes with a new code and matching card) if the other suggested methods don't work.

Thanks everybody, I have no cards with codes, so I'll try the manufacturer.
