Default Oil system ???

How do you disconnect the oil level sender wire thats located on the front of the oil pan? Just pull up?? I want to remove the pan for a good cleaning.

Is everyone using the FLAT cork oil pan gasket with yamabond, because the one I took off was neoprene with the cork nubs for the indents on the pan?? (but it leaked, so maybe the all cork is best)

TIA

The connector is a 'push - on' cylinder over a threaded stud for the sender, so you are correct - pull it upwards.
If you have a cork/neoprene composite gasket installed, chances are that it is a fairly recent change. I installed one of these a year ago to replace the 24 year old ( brittle) cork and did not use sealant. It has been dry - except for one area where the bolts backed off. Dry since retightening, but if the bolts back out again, they will get a shot of Yamabond - not the gasket.

Hey Garth,

Mine is a euro and i have no evidence that it was ever changed. I just finished my MM's yesterday and they were original. Thanks on the connector.

I was just surprised that the all cork is a factory porsche part and to my understanding the oil pan is the same thru all production so why delete the nubs that would fit into the indents that are there?

Anyone find the oil pan bolts at their hardware store?

For giggles, take a look at this . There is also a pic showing the level sender connector.
Note that the M6 bolts over the Xmember are shorter: also, the three bolts above the AC compressor needed gentle persuasion with a small impact tool to come out. The top threads were compressed, so they were trimmed 3-4mm before reinstall: presumably the holes were never tapped deeply enough.

The oil pan bolts are a pretty common size. When i did my mounts the other day i had several oil pan bolts missing(23yo car, to be expected i guess), and i had no problem finding bolts that fit in my 'spare bolts bin'.

bolts are m6 X about 20mm

You can get them at any hardware store...

Oh and you should go get a set of gear wrenches (racheting wrenches)

get ones with a light action ... a 10mm one will save you much heartache in removing and replacing the bolts... especiallt the fron ones and once next to the AC compressor....

Doing motor mounts??? Also The oil pickup seal is accesable may as well do that... Inspect bearings???

I recntly did this as well as the steering rack....

I know what you mean about the gear wrenches, i took them out with a regular wrench and near the oil level sender it was a major PITA.

I have been looking at the crank and will start a new thread about that.
