Intermittent clicking from right rear - 88 S4
So, I have noticed a clicking type sound from the right rear suspension. It seems to be only during an up/down shock travel. I got under the car this weekend and tightened shock and sway bar bolts, as well as the upper shock mount bolts, but it still persists. Could this be a problem with the shock itself? The sounds is not a particularly metallic sounds - almost sounds more plastic in nature. After raising the rear of the car and then settling it back down, I pressed down on the rear of the car and was able to recreate the sound, but not consistently. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

From: Seattle - it's not Hell, but you can see it from here!
mines been doing the exact same thing, can't figure it out, though it sound like a dry suspension bushing.
when coming to a stop at about 20 mph, if i tap the brake to lift the rear end there's a creaking noise, let of the brake to let the rear end go back down, it makes a creaking noise. i can usually do this 2 or 3 times per stop. won't do it by pushing down on the rear end though.
i unbolted and lubed the sway bar bushings, no go.
tried to lube the control arm bushing where it bolts to the bracket on the body, didn't help either.
from the driver seat it sounds like it's coming from the passenger door, but there's nothing loose in the door. strange...

Yeah - I thought it might be a bushing as well Dave, but since I discovered it really only happens in a vertical motion, I thought it might have something to do with the shock. It's definitely in the wheel though - hard to place it while inside the car, but when I was outside and pushing down on the rear of the car it was obvious the sound was somewhere in the wheel well...
