Thanks everyone for your input. I'll dive into it later this week. Looks like you've narrowed down the problem spectrum for me. Thanks again, I'll report later when I find and fix the problem.

I'll probably take my car to Automotive Excellence in Sorrento Valley for the timing belt/water pump replacement. That's too big a job for me, I think.

JE,

In which post did he specify that a leak was noticed in the cabin? Seems like a broken spring is a big reach.

Sam H.,

Were the drops of fluid noticed on the pavement or inside the shark?

I read the first one to be a few drips underneath as the pedal. Could be I read it wrong. If the blue or black hose broke, there would be a noticable puddle under the car. As the seal on the MC wears out, I think it tends to suck more air into the system than leak fluid into the cabin. Then the pedal gets mushy placing stress on the spring during clutch depression. As that spring breaks up and air traps in the MC, you notice play in the pedal until it gives out completely and goes to the floor. Pull it back with your foot and you engage the clutch. I'm betting spring. I'll post a picture of this failure today or tomorrow if possible. I still have the spring and old piston.

First thing to check (before the PITA master slave and hoses scenarios) when the pedal goes to the floor and stays there is the connection between the pedal and the pushrod into the master cylinder. - The part that fails is the plastic socket of the ball joint. Ball is on side of pedal (welded or bolted in place) plastic socket for ball screws on to the end of the Master pushrod. IIRC it is an M8 thread on to the Master pushrod and the ball dia is 13mm.

The assister spring in the pedal will ensure the pedal stays on the floor when there is no resistance to operation.

Lost track of how many clutch hydraulic failures I,ve had - Htink that M/C is the only one left now.
