I'm glad you brought that up Brett! I didn't even know anything like that was even made yet. Now I'm really wanting to get one. How do you like yours?

Default Z-BOX available (rare)

Just resurrected this thread because I have a rare Z-Box enclosure for sale that airosey talks about in the beginning of this thread.

For Sale Ad: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...41#post3766641

I do think it would be great for the owners of 928's who want this enclosure to consider a group buy to make a replica of this piece, since the original manufacturers went out of business. There obviously is enough interest.

This piece looks great in the car...I would strongly encourage it.

Has anyone successfully installed a Z-box in a S4 or newer 928? I got one and it will not fully seat in the back end. It is bottoming out in the area where the taillights mount. I have the feeling there was a design change for the different rear end and now there is now not enough volume for the Z-box.

Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone know if there were 2 versions of Z-box for the 928?

I just noticed in some of the "for sale" pics from post #18 that the corners where I am having trouble are not as squared off as my z-box. This means there must be 2 versions, one for the older body style and one for the newer.

Does anyone have a newer version they would like to swap for my older version? I wanted to put this in my S4.

FWIW, mine is a very tight fit in my '79. You have to get it lined up just right, and when it gets hung up it seems to be on the steel anchors on the floor at the base of the tool rack.

I thought those steel anchors were hanging it up too at first, but then I removed them. When I am pressing on the Z-box to make it seat deeper, it wont budge and you can see the tail lights moving. I really believe the outboard corners are interfering.

If I cant get a good answer to this, I will try it out for myself on my Dads '84 Euro. If it fits that car without problems, then there definitely has been a change. Too bad the car is not local...

Fit on the 84 USA, but a little tight due to clips.

Here are some pics of my "no-name box" that came with the car, when I bought it 15 yr.s ago. Always liked the fit, as if it belonged there. Upgraded the drivers over the years, strapped it down so it wouldn't fly into the back of my head under hard braking. The sub is limited to an 8" unit due to vertical clearance but I find it more than adequate. Easy to move off to the side, if you need to get to your spare or battery.

Somebody needs to use one for a mold and make a few of these. They can look stock if done right. I always thought it would be awesome to make a 2 sided one (for 2 speakers).

The first one I ever saw was in Bronto's car back 8-9 years ago.

There was a guy making the double version way-back-when down in Orange County. Jim Bailey shared contact info but it was a pretty dead end. I was trying to figure out how to put 8" drivers in the corners facing up and in, and still have the tools and such. Turns out there's just no good way to get adequate sealed volume behind any good 8" driver mounted in the corner that way. Options included going to smaller drivers or use up a lot of the luggage space. Keeping the tools also makes it a lot better to build enclosures that sit in the corner, form-fitted to the tray and the quarters but not part of either. The guy in OC who had been making them used 6x9 2-ways, a waste in that location. It needed good 6x9 mids with that space.
