Some folks have used a 21" belt, some have used a 20" one. Part numbers that have been used include L421, 4L220.

Okay, I was thinking about getting rid of the air pump too. Did anyone else read the thread H-P referenced and come away thinking you could use one belt off the crank, to spin the fan and alternator, even though they don't line up exactly? The reason being you could use the alternator for tensioning?

Yeah, I'm confused on that too! the alternator has a ribbed belt and the fan has a V belt. What do you have to mount a v belt pulley ontop of the alternator pulley? Geez, a pictures' worth a thousand words.

I completely eliminated my air pump and all its plumbing. I believe the belt I used for the fan is 21" long and from a lawnmower, though I don't have the part number handy. The tension on the belt is correct without the need for a tensioner. My car continues to run with the temp gauge slightly lower that it did with the air pump, although this is probably due to the elimination of the cats and not the air pump.

Remember that you'll need to plug a vacuum line for the air pump plumbing if you remove it.

I only run the Power steering and alt. belts.

I have a high output electric pusher, it cools the engine a lot better than the OEM clutch fan ever did, it's a tad lighter than the clutch fan, and it frees up a couple ponies.

Ultimately, this would probably be the best solution, when you can put an electric fan instead of the stock clutch fan. Why did go with the "pusher"? I thought the "puller" was supposed to be more efficient.

PUSH/PULL fans....Hayden's from Pep Boys...my temp gauge SELDOM gets above the 1st mark!
AND - the added room to work in the front of the engine bay is GREAT!

I originally installed both a pusher and a puller, because i expected to need them. When i realized that with two it never even achieved operating temperature(even on a hot day) running both, i tried running one or the other to see which gave the best results. Of the two(identical models btw), the pusher showed much better cooling in real world conditions, so i deleted the puller.

Some old threads said 20" belt. That wouldn't work for me, so I exchanged it for a 21" belt. I think the number was 4L210. Eventually I'll get an electric fan.
