Hey, Thanx everybody... I finally got the fuel pump relay out and then the horn reley out and when I switched them the horn still worked... "That's bad", I thought, but then I replaced the fuse to the fuel pump and she fired right up. I've been given some advice now to get under the car and take the cover off the fuel tank to get up to the fuel pump and look at the wiring and maybe even shoot some WD40 up there. The fuse wasn't broken it was slightly melted on one side. Can't talk anymore... goin' cruisin'. Thanx again for all your help.

Uh, check the fuse ---- FIRST.
Jim: is the relay on a '82 different from the one on an '85?
I just went through the same thing, and thought I might be able to swap in one of the other relays, but none of the part numbers matched, so I scratched the idea.

Yep. The pre 85 cars use a special relay for the fuel pump. ONLY that relay will work(ask me how i know, lol).
I usually just use needle nose visegrips on the metal cover and apply a steady pressure while wiggling it. Pops out in about 10 secs that way.
If your relay fails and you don't have another one, you can pop the cover off, and while cranking squeeze the little contacts shut, car should fire up even if the relay is bad.

If you put a loosely looped ty-wrap around the relay before you install it, you will have a handle to get it out if you need to. (and you won't need to dig around for the relay chart) These relays fail often. I always keep a couple of spares in the glove box.
