Default MAF Connector Corrosion

My ’85 has had a problem with running rich for quite some time. As of late, I have pretty much solved the problem….though it occasionally returns and I’ve found that I have to set the mixture using the pot on the MAF about once per month. I know the MAF is working right- John Speake rebuilt it not too long ago.

Rich? You should see the black wall in the garage! My Borla final muffler exits at a 45 degree angle….which means the wall is getting blasted with soot and the paint is getting expensive!

Also, I have an air/fuel ratio gauge hooked up, and lately…it has been running around 11:1 or 12:1 in traffic, fully warmed up. The paint is getting expensive…as is the fuel it’s wasting.

[Yeah, I know- add a supercharger and the problem is solved.]

Out of curiosity the other day, I decided to re-set the MAF, but while I was tinkering, I realized that it has been rather moist in Florida as of late. Instead of resetting the MAF, I simply cleaned the contacts with DeOxit. Guess what? Suddenly the car runs about 14:1, where it should, but it is slowly getting richer again. Hmm…

How does one go about cleaning and perhaps sealing something like the MAF connector? Any ideas?

N!

As long as you get the contact pins 100% clean, di-electric greas should seal it.
