Searching for S4 5-speed
Gang-
I'm searching for an S4 5-speed. Came across this one and wanted people's opinion.
1987 White - 5-Speed (Interior is Maroon - Yuk! But maybe I can overlook it)
Current Mileage About 76k
VIN Number: WPOJB0924HS861930 Can anyone run a carfax?
32,000 Heating elements in seats
48,251 Timing Belt
45,707 Clutch
68,000 Water pump, AC unit & controller, power steering pump, timing belt
(this was listed on receipt, bill was for $4,000)
72,000 Computer, new tires
Description:
This 928 has been well maintained by the two owners. The receipts since
purchase in 1987 and the original sticker describing the accessories and
cost are available. From 1987 to 2000 the car was owned by a dentist who
sold it to me when he purchased a 911 millennium edition. The dentist is my
school friend over the last 35 years and so I was familiar with this 928
since the beginning. The well-tuned engine, good tires with the 5 speed
provide the unique driving experience characteristic of the Porsche 928.
Installed Options Include:
Anti Lock Brakes, Increased performance air conditioning, sunroof, heated
leather seats, sport seats, limited slip differential, 5-speed manual
transmission and 8-speaker radio sound system.

Just got some pics from the seller. When i talked to him last night, I mentioned that I wasn't sure I wanted the maroon interior. He said well I can get it changed for $800! DANGER WILL ROBINSON - SELLER MAY BE HIDING SOMETHING! I thinkI may make a very low-ball offer and see what happens.
Anywho, here's the pics.

A rennlister was kind enough to share this with me. It all jives with what I know about the car, so I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same car.
Andrew,
Saw your post on Rennlist about this car - are you working with a broker, and is the car in Minneapolis? If so, I had an inspection done on the car by a P-car mechanic, and the car is TIRED, to say the least. The mechanic didn't even dig deeply into the car - he called me first to make sure I understood the condition the car was in. He said the paint showed it was obviously left outside most of its life, and the interior was worn well beyond its already advanced age. He didn't dig deeply into the mechanicals, he said that he could, but it probably wasn't worth spending a few hundred $$ on the inspection as the lack of care on the interior/exterior was probably very indicative on how the mechanicals were taken care of.
This was 7 months ago, and the car sounds like it is still for sale. It wasn't worth it to me because I wasn't in love with the color combo, and didn't want to spend a lot of time rehabilitating a car I didn't truly love. You already have a white 928, so that may not be your case though I recall an asking price of around $12K, but based on the condition as I understood it, I wouldn't go more than $8K or $9K. The car has been sitting for at least the past 9 months, so I know they are having difficulty selling it.
I just wanted you to be aware, and go in with eyes wide open - the description you are being given is not the real condition of the car. If you really want it - I suggest going to see it first.
Thats about all I know, but if I can help with any more info let me know...
