Default help on spare tranny

i'm building a spare tranny. but i cant seem to get the pin out of the last rod (if you r facing the diff. its at the to right.) is it okay to drill it out? since i have another one. and i cant seem to get the gear set assmebly out either. ive taken the ring out (the one that the imput shaft comes out of to connect to the driveshft) with a needle nose pliers but the. the ring with the open end and to loops that allow you to get the needle nose in there to clamp it so it can be bent out. i know you guys want pics but my camera is down. any help would be great. my other tranny was a breeze.
p.s. if any one wants to call me up and tell me how dumb after they help me that would be fine 973-573-7954

1 picture is worth 10000 words in a case like this. Do you mean one of two (there is two of them in each fork) 6 pins inside 11?

Or 48 in reverse gear shaft 47?

Of course it can be drilled away if you can get to it. Just use smaller drill bit than what is diameter of pin. Done carefully enough fork shaft etc are not damged at all. Simple hitting it with punch should have pushed it out from other side of fork. But since pin is beyond repair now might as well drill it out.

Be careful, the pin might be made from high strength steel. If it is, drilling it will me almost impossible. Try heating the shifter fork a little. Then make sure the other side is sitting firmly against something solid. Don’t let the rod flex when trying to hammer out the pin, it will only make things worse and bend the whole assembly. Before you do anything, take a small file and file down the mushroomed end of the pin back to the original size. Sometimes pins are cone shaped and can only be removed from one direction.

If it's hardened steel just use cobalt drill bits(they've worked for me on sheared head bolts in the past).

You can get them at sears or from snap-on/mac.
