3000$ you can find one just as nice if you look thats an 83-85 for around 4-6k that is a 5 speed and faster. You are going to hate getting outran by a honda when you try and race it wich you will.

It looks real nice. Any Porsche purchase will set you back 2K + original cost any way you go. So just be prepared and you'll be fine...

If you do get it and buy new fabric for the seats, I'd love to have a complete pattern from the scrap material you take off. Eventually I'm going to make my own Pascha interior, so having an original piece would help.

Guys, you are being too harsh on this car.

It looks to be in a well above average condition for a ’79. The owner took good care of it. The car is not mint but what I would call an excellent drivers car. If you can live not having an AC, then don’t worry too much about it. Recover the seats and replace the bushings. As for the clutch they are easy to take apart, replace only the worn out parts for now (throw out bearing). When the disks get worn out then replace everything.
In my opinion ~ $4500 would be a fair price for an ’79 in this condition.

Don’t let people discourage you. Get a PPI and unless there are major issues, buy the car. Drive it and fix the small things over time.

Wow does that bring back memories. Looks Identical to my 80 except my 80 was white. The same interior though. It brings bake memories of driving the car with a hangover and telling myself to just look straight ahead. The interior can do strange things when your in that state.

My mechanic went through it a bit yesterday and we'll be discussing options Monday over lunch.
-Lucky dog's going to Road America for the historics this weekend and I have to miss this year.

I'll let you know what we decide when I know. In the meantime, more advice never hurts.

-In the meantime, if anyone know of a newer (white) one for sale close to this price range, let me know.

From the pics, it looks very well taken care of for a '79! Looks like only a few cracks in the dash. Interior seems to represent it's been garaged and not left outside most of it's life(?). As the others have advised, get a PPI and make a logical decision.

Squeal turned out to be related to the TO bearing, and has been fixed.
The seller called me last night and said he fixed that and found the shift bushing kit, and wanted to know if I was still interested.

How difficult is a shift bushing kit to install on one of these?
Those were my only 2 mechanical complaints with the car...

I'll be talking with my mechanic this weekend and we'll see what he says.

The bushings on the shifter lever/rods can be replaced from within the car - not too bad to do: I've posted on this with pics, as have others.
The ball cup on the front rod usually requires the front exhaust to be lowered and the heat shield. The part is ~$35, and reasonably easy to install - again, many posts on this issue in the archives.
From your pics, the car looks very good.

nothing wrong with BFing... it can pay off handsomely
but while we're on the subject of this ob,
I think $3k is a good starting point, go up from there in reasonable increments
fixing the interior is gonna cost some $$$ of course it could be driven as is, or fixed slowly by the owner at less $$$...
just my 2 cents
now if this car were a sub 100 vin.... then all bets are off, even better if it were a sub 50 vin...
