TBelt pulley

TBelt pulley
Just at the tag end of Tbelt/water pump, Valley service, motor mounts, etc, and have come across a head scratcher with one of the Tbelt pulleys. The Tbelt kit came with several replacement bearings but not this one. The mechanic found a cast iron bracket at the bottom of the pulley system with a round bearing about an inch wide which the tbelt rides on. This iron bracket was bent and the bearing tilted a good quarter inch off square. The plastic guard which covers the bottom front of the tbelt was also broken. Can't imagine how anything could have come into contact there without having to go through the front of the car. No other problems apparent and the old tbelt and water pump were both in good condition. Had to order a new bracket and cover. Anyone familiar with this piece?

If it is at the 7 o'clock position of the crank, it is a vulnerable little item and quite necessary to keep the belt in position on the crank. When I did the tbelt it had grit and some resitance in it due to its location and love for sand I guess. As always check/replace everything that touches the belt. That bearing does not come with any Big 3 rebuild kit, and it anin't cheap. If the pin(s) is/are bent, I sympathize as that could be a problem.

Yes, it was at the 7 o'clock position and bent away from the crank....the pins were fine so no problems mounting the new bearing. Never asked what the cost of the item was, guess i'll find out tomorrow, however getting the car back in good running order after a month of missed driving, i'll just swallow hard and grin all the way home.
