Where is the pollen filter?

There's a tiny - mouse-sized - hole on the extreme passenger side of the air box under the blower. You will need an inspection mirror to see it. This appears to be the only way for air to get in as far as I can see. I didn't find it - CarChick did when I tasked her with cleaning a mouse nest from under the blower on a car I was working on.

So it pretty much gets air from the hood opening by the wind shield and through the openings/gap in that plastic thing. I'm trying to get my head around where stuff enters the "system", since it seems we collect a lot of crap. I'm thinking some sorts of mesh to protect the gaps that the plastic cover leaves, so that you can easily catch and then remove large debris (leaves, paper and plastic pieces, mainly).
