DR, you are one crafty SOB, going and promoting irresistable products like this. I'm about to order the hi/lo for my H4s. I'll wait on the H3s a little while longer, showing just how disciplined I can be. I'm about to PM you with a couple of questions.

Hi Shane,

>So is it possible to remove the foglamp assembly and replace it with a driving light assembly?

You can cheat and remove the inner diffuser and reflector of the Fog Light and it will act more like a driving light. You could then leave you HID headlights on Low beam and hit the Fog light switch when you want a high beam longer range effect. If your Fog lights were also HIDs the combination of the HID Low Beam Headlight and the HID Fog light (aimed like a driving light) would be impressive and light up the road completely.

OR, you can replace your current Parking and Fog Lights with the Euro Fog/Park and Driving lights. For some reason Porsche made the US Fog Light and the US parking light different sizes. While the Euro Fog and driving lights are the same physical size. This unfortunately prohibits switching one without doing both.

DR, hope it's not too late, but you (or maybe me, as I'll be getting the H4 set) oughtta get before and after photos of the beam pattern ...
  1. against a wall
  2. down a road/driveway
so we can see what happens to the beam pattern and overall intensity. Might want to override the auto settings on the camera, too, so you have the same aperture and exposure time for both photos (or else the camera will likely adjust things so that there's little, if any, difference!)

Hi Tom,

>What is the cost

The BI-Xenon (HID High and Low Beams) H4 Kits are $399
The Standard H4 Xenon Kit (HID Low Beams an Halogen High Beam) is $269
The H5 (9004) Xenon Kit "S4 Style" is $269 and Low Beam HID only.
The H3 Xenon Kits for either Fog or Driving Lights is $269

>and difficulty of this set-up?

I would estimate 2 hours to install all 3 Kits (Headlight,Fog and Driving)
It is literally a plug and play install , the most time consuming thing is deciding where to mount the HID Ballasts and routing the cables. I am working on an additional 928 Specific Install Guide that will make this easy.

Hi Tony,

>Geeez! With the back yard you have...and..uh...the handy firearm in the >shop, you can shine deer in your garage

:-) Ironically I have been lighting up the woods from the garage, it is almost like daytime!!

>Looks great!

Thanks Tony, I appreciate that.

jenyap,

>Looks nice! I've been thinking about getting a hi/low H4 HID kit for my car, >so I'de love to see what it does in real life.

That is the ONLY way to appreciate what these kits do. As with all of our signature products, if you aren't happy and satisfied return it for a refund.

>What does the light patern look like?

Doesn't seem to be much difference. I am sure there is some focal length change. BUT, our kits are one of the few that have evolved to a shorter HID bulb to better mimic the length of the original it replaces. This helps keep the focal length and reflection angles closer to the original.

>I also wonder how reliable the kit is.

The Kits we sell are the 3rd generation HID kits and the reliability has shown to be excellent. Keep in mind the HID system come on a lot of new cars, (heck even Hondas come with HIDs) and the technology has become very stable and dependable.

>I guess time will show.

Yes, and they come with a full 1 year warranty. There are impressively made with all weatherproof connectors, heavy duty weatherproof ballast and ignitors

>Good luck!!!

Thanks!!

Ni Norm,

YES!

Hi Ed,

>DR, you are one crafty SOB, going and promoting irresistable products like this.

Cool, you will like them a lot!

>I'll wait on the H3s a little while longer, showing just how disciplined I can be.

You will be a better man than me! I thought that way also, then I instaled the Headlights and after seeing the difference in brightness and color I had to go for the Driving Lights, THEN after seeing that I had to do the Fog Lights too...

>I'm about to PM you with a couple of questions.

OK, just shoot me n e-mail with your questions.

Scott,

>Where are the igniter/ballast modules mounted?

I mounted the driving light ballast and ignitor on the back side of the bumper bar directly behind the driving light.

I mounted the ones for the Headlights and Foglights on the back side of the bumper bar directly behind the Fog light.

All were mounted using only the hardware and brackets included in the kit without drilling a single hole or making and mods to my 928.

See photo that shows my "quickie" first Headlight/Fog install locations. I am working on a bracket for those that do all 3 Kits that will make it much neater.

Hi Ed,

>against a wall

See attached photo, this is low beam HID 35 watt on left and low beam Halogen 100 watt on the right. Hard to tell from the photos but the patterns are pretty much identical. (the left is a little too high)

Oh, and yes the 2 pieces of cardboard are the same color, they were one piece before I cut them in half.

>down a road/driveway

I will get these later, the Euro is disassembled in a few different areas and currently "lift bound". Between Chris, Randall and myself we have about 4 different new product development projects going on at the same time and pieces of it are scattered around here and there :-)

DR,

The HID lights look like just the thing to brighten up the damn dark parts of rual Vermont. I was thinking that I would leave my H4's with Silverstars in place and just do the driving lights (they come on when the high beams are on) to get some light farther down the road. Is that choice something you see as a efective option?

Hi Paul,

>Is that choice something you see as a efective option?

Yes, absolutely! BUT I will warn you, once you see how great they work in the Driving Lights it will entice you to put them into the headlights also.

Heres a stupid ??? what are the standard lights on my 88 S4.....H3? or H4? I know the H4's were the more powerful euro light that is too powerful for US standards right? What is the difference between the H3 & H4 (I know not much with a HID, but in standard form?)
Thanks
Brian

Ice, the standard headlights on your S4 are H5's.
