Broken wire. Whats it go to?

I have discovered a broken wire located on the passenger side under the radiator hoses. (see the attached photo) ( that's not my engine, just a borrowed photo) It is reddish brown and has a bayonet connector about six inches down the line from where it broke. I have pulled it out in every direction and can't find a connector or other broken wire where it may have come from. The wire comes out of a bundle of wires wrapped in black plastic tubing leading over toward the passenger side inner fender well. My air conditioner quit blowing cold just out of the blue the other day. Could this be related? It's not long enough to reach the compressor and I know it doesn't go to the fans, they work just fine. HELP !!!!

That is the reason you don't have AC. That wire is the 12 volts to the AC clutch. Look for an inch long square connector for the bayonette.

Sometimes, there is an in-line disconnect. Look down on the compressor (or other area) for another wire that needs a home. You might want to look up on top of the psgr timing belt cover as i seem to recall there being a wire that snakes across there.

86_5Tiburon, where is that located? It's very hard to see anything in that area. Thanks

The wire it connects to comes out of the side of the compressor. It is also orangish brown in color and feels like cloth, identical to the loose wire, with a big, rectangular plug on the end of it.
Here's a link to Big Dave's thread with a pic of the compressor and wire https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=27688

I may not have been to clear. The wire comes out of the bundled harness about 8 inches and at that point there is an inch long rectangle connector, still connected. The wire continues out the other side of that connector about 6 inches where it is broken. Where is that suppose to lead/connect to?

the broken end goes to the a/c compressor. you'll probably have to drop the compressor to find the other end. it's the wire that activates the clutch to spin the compressor.

Rixter, that's the one! The wire leading out the connector (the red one in your photo)is only about 6 inches long. I suspect that the rest of the wire got eatin off by the belts.
Tom, thanks. Is there a way to fish for it without dropping the compressor? Just the thought out that makes my butt pucker.
Thanks to all of you that responded.

glad I could help, I took that pic so I would remember where it hooked after the tb/wp
it's tough to reach that wire w/compressor on, you could try to get it by loosening all the bolts and putting a jack under it so it doesn't have to come "down"

you can try fishing for it. the wire originates at the top of the clutch area of the compressor (there are actually 2 wires that originate here.) both go back across the top of the compressor and one is then grounded to the compressor itself by way of a clamp that holds the second one in place. the second one then comes back forward in the area of the timing belt tensioner. thats the end you're looking for.

Well, here I go again. Thank goodness I didn't put the belly pan back on since I was last down under. Thanks again to all. Hope this helps somebody else out also.

If you have small hands or no smog pump, you can probably find the wire from above.
I have the opposite problem. I have the compressor end of the wire (red fabric covered part), but I'm not sure about the harness end.
