Default Headlights No worky?

Well, I went to use the headlights and they won't flip up or turn on. They have done this intermitantly but now there s nothing. Before I could turn the **** back to nothing and then all the way on and they would pop up. Now all I get is the driving lights. I checked fuse #27 (15a) looks good. I pulled the **** out and all of the connections look clean and tight. I took the arm off of the motor and put the lights up manually and still no light. Must be a connection somewhere in there right? If the motor was bad the lights would work anyway, right? How do I get the motor out to check connections? Can I just pull the rubber off it? Do I disconnect the arm and then the 3 bolts holding it and it should slide up and out so I can check connections and if power is getting there?

Anyone have a used working relay I could try before I buy the $85 one from 928 Spec.

Reconnect the arm/actuator to the headlight bar, and crank the lights upright manually via the **** on top of the motor ( this will close contact sets within the gear box for the motor that provide feedback to the headlight relay IIRC). Turn on the headlight switch:If they light, it is likely the motor contacts - and vice versa.

How do I get the condom off of the motor first? Does it just pull off?

h-

I'm guessing it's the relay. If you tell me the part number I can check to see if I have one here. DR just sent me two different versions of the relay to diagnose my problem. Maybe one of them could help you.

It must be the relay ('85-'95 cars 928.618.107.04). I cranked the headlights up turned the car on and they flipped down. That means the motor is working. Turned them on and cranked them up, still nothing. Guess I'll be hunting for a relay here before it gets dark.

Sorry. I don't have that relay. Why not do a little open heart surgery on the relay? They open right up and might be able to see what the problem is. If that's not the issue, you can close it back up if needed. Good luck.

While looking for an answer to a small problem... I came up with something like you have.

Headlight switch may have failed.

If it does turn out to be the switch - I have one complete with **** - $25.

I'd suspect the switch only because of the symptoms you noted - switch off & back on and it works - sometimes This affects the mechanicals of switch more than the relay that just sitting there - although it could still be either...

Try some switch cleaner into the switch too...

I'm sure yus guys have already tried this, but I'll through it out there anyway.

1. Turn the key to the on position (do not start motor) and the headlights switch turned on.

2. Now push in & wiggle up and down on the relay.

If that doesn't do it, pull out the wire diagrams and look for what plug (pannel connector) in the fuse pannel triggers the relay from the dash mounted switch. With the relay removed, test to see if you are getting 12VDC when the switch is thrown.

Have you ever noticed your headlights don't come on untill they are all the way up?

I seem to remember that there is a switch that tells the headlight relay that the head lights are in the up or down position. I am not sure, but it maybe internal to the motor.

FWIW, if you want you head lights to stay up after you have manualy raised them, you will need to pull the motor fuse first.
