How does a water pump job come to 500$?
From what I figured it should be about 120$ for a pump with gasket and 25$ for a Tbelt from 928Intl. So, it comes to 145$. Is my math wrong?

Your math is fine - but there are a 'few extras': the HTD round tooth belt ( from '83 on) is ~$50 - not $25, a tensioner roller is ~$60, ~$40 for gasket/boot/o-ring/clamp for the tensioner rebuild, idler roller at ~$70, two crank idlers at $50, ( you can press new bearings in the latter three for <$20) .... worn cam drive gears, oil pump & crank may be added, carrier arm bushings at ~ $35, usually a handfull of new M6x20 & 25mm bolts, etc ..... and the total rises.
If everything else is fine, you can get away with just the TB and pump; however, it is wise to redo the tensioner boot and tensioner roller and bushings as a minimum - so $200-250 could do it.

Why do you need to redo the tensioner?

Generally the boot cracks or tears and the tensioner dries up. The O-ring gets hard and becomes useless gets dry (and maybe over time even if properly oiled). My tensioner rebuild cost $70 or 80 because of PO maintenance, and it NEEDED it.

Dude if I gave you one, you should know I didn't love you. Pay the measly bucks and get a new one.

It's a soft wear item and if it breaks it could cause major damage. A new one is only about $40.
