Ruh row. Tell me it ain't so Greg.

In any case replacing the thrust bearing requires seperating the short block AFAIK. i.e. motor out, take everything apart until you can hold the crank in your hands.

Nah. I'd call it an 8.5. The only "10" I know is Earl's $50 GT. But, you might be able to argue that Earl turned it up to "11" on that.

WTFO? Bummer. 928Intl has a pile of engines sitting on the shelf, bad news is they are only 2974.6 miles away. Look at this as an opportunity to go stroked, or short pistons and SC/turbo.

I feel - your pain.

Start looking for a replacement engine. Transfer what you need to the new engine, rebuild it like Big Dave and then fix the current engine and offer it the next owner who is where you are now. This assumes that the block in the 86 is salvagable. I saw thread where Heinrich was offering block, crank and pistons for an 85-86 engine for a supercharger. Maybe you can work something out. Good luck.

Oh, I forgot that Stan Shaw, I think he had an 86 engine available. That is in your neighborhood.

Question

Greg,
For clarification.
Are you talking about measuring fore & aft crank walk and loc-titing the clamp screw (allen), or, has the crank walked to the point that it's 'machining' the journals already?
If it walked... how far?

Greg . . . I hope you were just asking a question and NOT stating you had TBF. Do keep us informed dude.

Everybody sit tight. I just talked with Greg on the phone. It's highly unlikely that he's got terminal TBF. I'll let him fill you in when he checks back in.

May your oil sample flow clean and metallic particulates free.

Not all thrust bearing failures require a replacement block, unless the particles that are sheered off cause other damage to the block.
