Talking Tour de France avec Photos

I've just returned from a 3,000 mile tour of France and I thought it would be nice to share some pictures I took during the trip. After a day's drive to get to the Alps, the first half of the holiday was in mountainous terrain which gave the opportunity to push the car really hard, and to take some fairly picturesque photos.

I was very lucky to have an excellent navigator with me who you will see in some of the photos.

After driving for at least an hour or two towards this particular mountain pass we saw a sign "Route Barre". I really didn't want to have to retrace our path as it would have added 250 miles or more to our day's journey. So we drove back the the most recent village and asked if we could get through the pass, luckily we were told that the road wasn't officially open but we'd be fine if we carried on. I always drive through villages and towns with extreme care well below the speed limit, and this was our reward on this occasion, as I'm sure we would have been told otherwise if I had been less respectful.

You really can't spend too much time in the mountains!

The start of a road through a wonderful national park, which passed along a spectacular gorge.

Bikes are very popular in the Alps, and you will also see very many serious cyclists on hills and mountain passes you would think twice about even driving up!
