Wow, that's horrible! It's amazing how much rubber survived despite the fender being burned off.

Hmmm.perhaps Mark/Jim or DR can put together a package deal for a hose refurbishment kit, just like the Tbelt kit, listing it by model year and part numbers like you did above. I bet there would be takers! One call, one part numer for your car and you have all the hoses you need.

looking at those pics made my stomach turn again. I know how much time Shane put into that car. Truely a bummer and a loss. I popped the hood on mine this afternnon and gave it a quick "once over"

Sorry to see this, Shane! Those pics are gut -wrenching. When I see them, it looks like where my car will be if I don't take your advice. I've been sitting on my thumb thinking about getting a fire extinguisher for months. Getting one tomorrow! Glad you and your son are okay otherwise. If anyone can revive Heidi, it would be you. Good luck!

Shane, words can't convey my shock and sorrow...that's so bad. And much too close to home..a car I lusted and had touched. And such a great owner too. I was impressed the first time I saw that you had trouble getting traction with Heidi at any speed...all you had to do was just tap the gas pedal and you'd leave me like I was sitting still. Bummer.

I carry a 5 lb. Halon but I don't think that'd be enough after looking at your fotos so I'm getting another 5 pounder. That must have been a FEROCIOUS FIRE! Hard to believe. Glad you're OK. If you go back stock, I might have a few used engine parts around but, knowing you, you'll put it back "right" and that means virtually perfect. Good luck, buddy.

I have known about this since Wed, and am glad Shane has posted this publicly.

EVERYONE REPLACE ALL YOUR FUEL HOSES!

I bet if The Big 3 did a survey they would find that radiator hoses get replaced at a much greater rate than do fuel hoses. I'll bet it's 5-6 to 1. Of course this makes very little sense, but unfortinately, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It's a sad day when the rotten fuel lines finally squeak. 10-28 year old fuel lines are just not safe. Seems that every other or 3rd time I visited 928 International, I would see a new burnt 928.

I am going to declare National Fuel Line Repalcement weekend.
I hope that as suggested above, the Big 3 will come up with a fuel line repalcemant package deal. It could be the hottest, or better yet coolest deal going.

Shane,
I am seroius about my offer. Hopefully you have time to send it back to me before the end of your vacation.

Bump and..
Let's Mark National Fuel Line Replacement Weekend, June 25-26th. By doing so I think that more people will likely do this if there is a "deadline". More people will do this if we do it all together. More people will likely do it as more help will be available. This will allow you time to get groups together around a cook out etc, and have your hoses and tools ready.

-Call one of the Big 3 today and place your order for all of the fuel lines in your car.
-Set up a date ASAP to get this done. 32V cars won't take more than 1-2 hrs. 16V cars may take longer. If you can't do it get with someone that can help you. You may need to have a BBQ at you house to keep from BBQing later.
-Get a fire extinguisher for the service and carry it with you at all times.
-Take extreme precautions while you are changing your lines. Don't let prevention become a disaster.

Shane, dittos on the "condolences", as well as the "Glad you all are OK." Sorry I haven't been a shark owner long enough than to offer more than that.

I'm all over that "package" deal, just as an incentive to do 'em all; as if the pics aren't motivation enough.

Based on the pre-blaze picture, I'm sure you've consumed your share of Mylanta lately. That really really stinks.

Good luck!

What I find coincidental in Shane's fire and the one that Louie Ott had in Wichita, was that the flames were coming out from under the hood, but expanded significantly and almost out of control when the hood was opened.

I wonder if perhaps leaving the hood just cracked and shooting an extinguisher into the cracks at first..will keep the oxygen level down..to a point where it won't roar out of control when the hood is fully opened???..just a thought....and might work pretty effectively with Halon ...?

any thoughts on this?...

Later,
Tom

Big Three....offer your fuel line hoses in kits! In fact, the kit idea for various changeouts is a good idea. I hate poring over the PET looking for numbers....some of which have changed since it was printed anyway.

OMG! I totally missed that... After seeing Loui Ott's blue S4 catch fire in Wichita last year, this is not something I'd wish on anybody! Hopefully you can rescue this poor shark and get it back to its prior beauty.

One thing I have learned from the pyrotechnic experience in Wichita and Shane's description: One small car fire extinghisher does not seem to be enough to put out a serious engine fire.

Well John Davis and Heinrich stopped by yesterday to lift my spirits, which succeeded. They installed the Dash, Pod and center console. into Helmut and really gave us both a nice face lift.

John and Heinrich hard at it!

And later we gave Heidi a bath with the pressure washer. She is still quite hurt but it was nice to see that the engine and other critical components survived.

It will still be a long journey but I can and will rebuild her. Any and all help will be appreciated.
