Default A/C button turns into a projectile

OK...A/T 1989S4......Was driving today, A/C on...when all of a sudden the A/C button shot off the center console and went into the rear seat. Found it, put it back on. Pushed the A/C button back in...and again popped off....The push button for the A/C will not stay depressed at all. I can push it in and the A/C will work as long as a hold my finger there. Once I take my finger off...pops off. My questions are...Is there anything I can manipulate with the black A/C button off in the switch itself...maybe pressing something to give it tension to hold....or spray contact cleaner or WD40 in there to clean 16 years of use..or what?....

Brett,
Sounds like something busted - I don't think there is likely to be much you can do to fix it.

I have a used switch I'll send you if you like as long as you will send me the same part (with your busted switch) back.

I need some of the other parts in the switch plate so this is just the AC switch and the empty frame - as far as I know they are all similar construction even though the switches and indicators on the front were different by model year.

Everything on your switch plate should just screw into the one I send you...

PM me with address etc.

Alan

PS the one I have is a 928.641.609.15 it has the AC switch, the "!" indicator/Switch next to that, a fasten seatbelts warning indicator next and the central locking at the far right. Is yours a similar configuration to this?

Question

Brett,
Here is what I have:

Front panel looks like this:

These are the components behind the panel. AC switch is integrated to the frame:

This is the part with the AC only - happy to send it to you:

Alan
