Default Dual Exhaust Tips???

Who has modified the rear bumper guard to accept dual exhaust tips?
Body shops are concerned about tackling it as there is a lip surrounding the current cut out for added support and the factory pre-molded fabrication is not duplicatible when done by hand. Is there an aftermarket bumper guard available?

Tell 'em to just cut it. The original owner of mine had a 3" dual outlet system installed & had to make room for it. I recently had to replace most of it and had a dual in/out Magnaflow installed to fill the cutout... no issues whatsoever and it looks great. Sounds good too...

I think pretty much all the Jacquemond bumper covers have dual exhaust. Someone also makes a stock looking bumper cover out of fiberglass, which would be easier to modify.

Isnt the position of the tank more of a problem?

Ive often wondered how to get dual exausts all the way from the engine. I guess a smaller fuel cell kind of tank and some heat shields could be an option. That way one could install the passenger side pipes beneath the tank.

I was about to ask the same question. My '79 has a gas tank in the way.

This was discussed in a previous post. A 928 listed on Ebay had dual exhaust exits, looked good from behind, bumper blended very well. Here's an underside picture of the pipe routing.

That's interesting, would there be any issues with the extra length? I imagine all the extra turns would make a difference as well.

Have seen one GT with "dual exhaust". Passenger side was robbed from two short pipes that go from last muffler to outside air through bumper. Twin pipes did then go to other side and exited there. All it really did was divert some steam to passenger side so that it would look like true dual exhaust when visible gases exit on both sides. Very tight fit but doable.

The lengths look about the same to me. Couldn't be more than 2 inches difference between left and right pipes.

Neat solution... I thought of a similar idéa last time I was under the car. I came to the conclusion that one maybe have to put an extra heat shield in the back of the gas tank though. Im not sure if there really is any risk involved but it would feel safer...

*Saves pic and puts it in the "Projects to come" folder*

Factory 87+ cars have unequal lengths for the two pipes anyway. If anything, the pic above equalizes the length by adding a foot or so to the short (left/driver's side) pipe (which exits on the right/passenger side in the pic).
