Default Radiator drain plugs...non-plastic replacement?

I'm trying to get my hands on a radiator drain plug since I managed to crack mine. Obviously I'm REALLY itching to get it today and be able to drive my 928 for the first time since August.

None of the local P-car dealers stock them, so if I can't find a local guy with one, does anyone know the size/thread pitch of the plastic bolt so I can get a metal one (and be very careful with it) at a hardware store? I've got lots of rubber washers and plumber's tape, so no worries there.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Knowing how efficient 928 Int'l is, I'd be surprised if Jim Bailey hasn't already shipped the drain plug to you. It will probably arrive this morning via FedEx. The part number looks to be 928 106 444 01 from the PET program

BTW, really nice job getting that motor rebuild and running. Nice work. Anybody can hang kitchen cabinet doors, it takes an artist to rebuild a 928 engine.

Beware a bi-metallic reaction if you go the non-plastic route. Everything the coolant touches is Aloooomineeeeeum, adding some other metal else could be bad ju-ju.

Yup!!! My PO had a metal bolt plugged in mine along with anti-freeze that wasn't safe for aluminum. He only had it in there for a year, but it still started creating some gunky stuff that I had to get flushed out of there (4 flushes to get it done).

Hi Dave,
Congrats on Firing up the beast again! See ya next weekend.

FYI, I would not be comfortable with any thing other than those plastic drain plugs. Call me crazy but I would much rather strip out or crack the replacable plastic drain plug than to strip out the threads on the radiator!

If you need one let me know as we can ship you one out Saturday Delivery.

Have a great 928 weekend,

It is a standard 10 mm bolt .......And yes I do have 10 of the correct drain plugs on the shelf along with the largest collection of 928 parts in the world. I would be happy to send you one but it just makes Fedex/UPS that much more profitable with the costs of overnight Saturday delivery. That could go in an overnight Envelope though.

A local 928 owner here may have one, and he's going to check at lunch. If he doesn't I'll get one shipped overnight.

Youse guys should take a hard look at your 'Aloooomineeeeeum' block drain plugs and water pump impeller if searching for 'bad ju-ju'. BTW, don't let Dave know when he's this close ....

Rob good on you. You saved the day literally . By the way I just sent you a new replacement drain plug for free. Just a way to say thanks for going out of your way to help a fellow 928 owner.

What a great group we have here!

Thanks Jim!!!

Everyone should keep a spare one. It doesn't take much to break one when its 20+ years old.
