Default 928 gets a bath!

A fellow 928er Rick3482 (thanks Rick!) nearby has a lift and let me do an undercarriage cleaning from below. I have wanted to do this for a while; degreaser/pressure washer to clean as much as possible without going the "full chuck".

Pretty funny to be in a rain coat with pressure washer in-hand. I did get about 90% of the gunk and cosmolene off. I had done some of this last year while the car was on the ground using floorjack and jack stands, but this was better. I mounted up the belly pans after this, and covered everything with WD40. Gave everything a look see before doing the 2000 mile SITM round trip. Pan screws are loctited and everything else looks good.

Can I just leave it on Chuck's doorstep with a note like an abandoned baby?

Looks nice, Carl!

I'd be leery about the WD40 - I think a lot of dirt/grime is going to stick to it! YMMV!

PS - you look like a FLASHER in your 'outfit'.....I wouldn't take it to SITM - those Banner Elk cops (ALL, by the way named "Barney") might just have to have a little 'talk' with you!!

Damn, that's clean. Like Mark said, WD40 is not a good idea.

I used a pretty generic engine degreaser that is a solvent, doesn't seem to harm paint. I don't know what is best for dissolving cosmolene, and in New England I shouldn't even be removing it because of all the salt on the roads 5 months out of the year. The WD40 is a good thing anyway; you guys live in a better environment for corrosion.
There are some spotless 928s out there, and after I get my '87 up to speed I will do some real scrubbing and cleaning on that one.

I always thought the underside of that car was more interesting than the top!

Carl,
Try this stuff corrosion x . I've been using it for over a year and it's amazing stuff. They are a rennlist sponsor and have special pricing for members.

Its a sickness and it appears you've got it! I was just going to clean up the black GTS and DRIVE it. Well, now 2 months later its still on my lift getting the "full Chuck" and it looks great. Now, it will be super clean and I am still going to DRIVE it! Pics to follow.......

I have used a product called oilflo from Car Care Specialties but have found while cleaning the 78 that lacquer thinner works better. Be VERY careful with both around painted surfaces as it WILL remove paint. Works really good on all the aluminum and plastic parts under a 928.

Kerosene works best. Simple Green works well and is harmless to paint from all I've seen and heard. Some citrus solvents supposedly work well, but I haven't tried them.

..Well then you haven't seen or heard about my red but now well faded and ruined 86.5. I used Simple Green to remove grease marks left by a mechanic....made it worse...a lot worse. Do NOT use Simple Green. VERY harmful to paint.

That's news to me. I haven't sprayed it on paint to remove anything, but I've had over spray on paint without any problems.
