928 gets a bath!
A fellow 928er Rick3482 (thanks Rick!) nearby has a lift and let me do an undercarriage cleaning from below. I have wanted to do this for a while; degreaser/pressure washer to clean as much as possible without going the "full chuck".
Pretty funny to be in a rain coat with pressure washer in-hand. I did get about 90% of the gunk and cosmolene off. I had done some of this last year while the car was on the ground using floorjack and jack stands, but this was better. I mounted up the belly pans after this, and covered everything with WD40. Gave everything a look see before doing the 2000 mile SITM round trip. Pan screws are loctited and everything else looks good.
Can I just leave it on Chuck's doorstep with a note like an abandoned baby?

Looks nice, Carl!
I'd be leery about the WD40 - I think a lot of dirt/grime is going to stick to it! YMMV!
PS - you look like a FLASHER in your 'outfit'.....I wouldn't take it to SITM - those Banner Elk cops (ALL, by the way named "Barney") might just have to have a little 'talk' with you!!

I used a pretty generic engine degreaser that is a solvent, doesn't seem to harm paint. I don't know what is best for dissolving cosmolene, and in New England I shouldn't even be removing it because of all the salt on the roads 5 months out of the year. The WD40 is a good thing anyway; you guys live in a better environment for corrosion.
There are some spotless 928s out there, and after I get my '87 up to speed I will do some real scrubbing and cleaning on that one.

Carl,
Try this stuff corrosion x . I've been using it for over a year and it's amazing stuff. They are a rennlist sponsor and have special pricing for members.

..Well then you haven't seen or heard about my red but now well faded and ruined 86.5. I used Simple Green to remove grease marks left by a mechanic....made it worse...a lot worse. Do NOT use Simple Green. VERY harmful to paint.
