i'm getting ready to paint my 1983 928. it has been sprayed before and the side molding has been painted the same color as the car. should the molding be painted to match the car or was it black from the factory. the car is quarts grey metalflake.
thanks,

I painted the passenger side mouldings satin black, about a year ago. So far, no one has noticed that the driver's side is different! I have never liked colour-coded mouldings, because the paint on the flexible plastic never seems to quite match the paint on rigid metal. I like the way the black looks, and this thread has reminded me I need to do the other side.

Some '81 and '82 model year local ROW models have matt black side mouldings where surface is more like S4 wing surface than flat painted GTS wing surface. So far I haven't managed to find out if its factory finnish or if it was done later. If it's factory it's very likely ROW only thing on early mouldings.

I replaced the moldings recently, and I realized there were two different styles of moldings. the curves on hte ends were different, and also the width of the front/rear ones were different.
maybe this backs yout theory Erkka, sins my 81 hat factory mouldings, and thay were black when I got the car. htey are red now, however.
