I guess I could be 180 off, but I swear that I was at TDC, both cam marks aligned, and the distributor set correctly at #1. What else could I be missing? If I was 180 off, would that account for the no fire condition? The car just cranks and cranks.

Glad to hear you found it. Thanks for swearing that it was at TDC. So, what's up with your timing connected to right front wire flashing when the 0|1 mark passed the index? Hmmmm?

The CIS fuel distributor is pretty rugged. It might benefit to disassemble and clean, clean clean, before replacing it. There are pretty good manuals out there for the Bosch K-jetronic system.

Well, I talked to John at special t auto today, (specialtauto.com) and I'm gonna send hime my fuel distributor & wur. I'm pretty sure mine are original, so I figure this needs to be done sooner or later. Will update when reinstalled.
From what I could tell, the steering rack mounting bolts are one piece with the crossmember, right?

Wrong , Counterhold on top with your most shallow 17mm socket - trust me, it works ...

bEFORE YOU TEAR THE dist and wur off, you should do a pressure and delivery check . beg/borrow/steal a gauge set ($50 at JCWhitney) for pressure. Disconnect return line as it goes over rh cam cover, add a hose into a container, bridge pump relay, check for volume ~1200-1350 ml in 30 seconds. CIS cars do not like being left standing for long periods...

Too late JP, already out. My plunger was stuck pretty good. That explains why it used to stumble really bad before, but when I drove it and slammed on the gas it would get unstuck. Then the next day it was stuck again.

Ok, with a stuck plunger you dont have much option, so its not wasted. The other day at my local wrench there was a guy playing with WUR on a '71 2.2 911 with CIS. Hard to start, no power until warmed up, backfires etc. The WUR that came off had a bolt screwed into the post that carries the bitmetallic strip etc. It had a washer and a lock nut on it - looks like you could use it to pull the post up in the body (increase control pressure) without dismantling the unit. Tapping the post in will decrease control, easy to do. Swapping to another WUR didnt help, so his problem was elsewhere..
