Pod repair Update #4
been a couple weeks so here's an update
I have the process pretty much down to a tee...
this pod came is last week and needs another final shiny coat before heading home to it's owner
the crack is still slightly visible due the the flash accentuatuing the difference in texture... once installed it will barely be visible
comments? suggestions?
I have a full set of pics and working on the write up for the diy'ers, just need someone to host it when done

Looks good to me.
Do you have any suggestions for proper care - ie, what to clean it with and how to keep it from cracking again (either in the same place or somewhere new)?

care is always an issue...
as with any other pod (or 928 interior in general) avoid leaving it in sunlite for extended periods
for those in "warmer" climates I suggest calling 928Specialists and ordering a set of their heatshields, cost is $99 and are invaluable
it will clean with your standard cleaner (I use lexol)

I looked at the original picture you posted of the cracked pod, and compared it to the pictures posted above - WHAT A DIFFERENCE.
Rixter, you do excellent work. Good luck with your enterprise.

thanks Don,
awaiting the owners approval of the larger pics I sent this morning... I'm sure they will give their opinion after reinstalling it
I figure with time/materials I can do the repairs for about $60 +shp... if anyone is interested

Rixter-
I know you mentioned dashes in a previous update, are you getting near to trying that out?
Also, my dash and pod are in really sorry shape. Do you anticipate any problems working on really bad pods/dashes, or do you think you can handle them all know.
Your work looks fantastic, and I'm definitely interested if you think you'll be able to do dashes at some point in the future.

Great work rixter! Great improvement. I may become a future customer. Mine has several hair-line cracks in it, but not too bad. Keep us posted and post more pics as you do them.

I have just started testing on dashes... I have one I'm starting tomorrow that I hope will be my 1st to full completion to go in a car, it has a severe crack on each end but otherwise in good shape
as for severely cracked pods/dashes, it will depend on the intergrity of the piece itself, I've been doing a lot of testing on a pod that has seperated on the underside and won't even mount properly in a car at this point... but it does give me lots of different size/shape cracks to experiment
straight or hairline cracking when caught early is generally easier
I do have step by step pics and a write up in progress, if someone can post it permanent I'd be happy to send it along for those who'd like to try it themselves
