My 84 has some electrical issues. Wow...big surprise. When I turn on my headlights, the car dies...like its starving for fuel. Turn the key and starts and runs fine. I turned them on going 55 the other night and the car died in its tracks. Any ideas? I have noticed that the gauge will register almost at the very bottom at idle with the air on. Start driving and it runs under 12....never on it or above it. The alt is brand new. Battery is brand new. Car has not had any issue with battery drainage at all. I am stumped.

Jeff............although the battery and alternator are new do the basic charging system checks and confirm all is well. If all good then perhaps you have a dead short to ground in either the headlamps or the mechanism to rotate. Is the headlight switck OK?

Miine will do this every now and then, like it shuts the fuel pump off or something.

Try cleaning the fuse board. Check for burnt areas closely. At the very least the system will operate better.
