Default Electrics (wiring tests)

I have just competed replaceing the electrics panel, engine wiring harness and repairing the dash wiring harness after a cat fire. I am now ready to test but I am not sure how to approach the testing. I have tested between the battery neg. and ground to check for any current flow with the key on and found none, but I am sure thier is a better method for testing. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, what i did on my 1979, I just took wiring diagram and followed the wire I needed, checking for V or resistance(it depends what are you looking for) on the way.
Wiring problems are always the ones which take the most time to fix(I mean to find)
You will need a DIGITAL tester(cheap, but digital) and a lot of patience.
Good luck,

Klim

Apart from a dvm (digital voltmeter) with a sound making continuity tester, I have found a wire tracing unit very useful where there is doubt about where a wire goes, and where it might be broken or earthed. I used a borrowed one check my headlight wiring was ok when they failed to erect.
These are used to trace out power or data lines that may be partly laced through walls and difficult to reach areas. You attach one piece to a wire end with an alligator, and it sends a steady or warbling (your choice) tone down the line; you then run an inductive pickup probe along the outside of the cabling cover or wire itself to verify where it goes. If the wire is broken/earthed, the tone will stop somewhere unexpected, and you can isolate this point quite closely. I have seen one labelled 'Fox and Hounds' - try here - http://www.triplett.com/tes_wct_pg01.htm $92.
