Default Question about 928 I found (what's it worth)

I have a 944, but I went to look at a 928 the other day that is for sale I know what 944's go for, but nothing about the 928. I would like some of you in the 'know' to give me a range for the car:
this is what I know
'83 928 auto
brown exterior - no lower valance(he hit a dog), minor scratches/dents, drivers window stuck down, hatch is not latching and the tires are flat.
brow interior - drivers seat trash, pas seat not ripped, back seats ripped, carpet could clean up, dash cracked and the head liner looks lose.
Mechanicals - He says it runs, but has "torque converter noise at 1000 rpm", he tells me it started running hot after he changed the thermostat and he put an additional fan in. he told me "it shifts strong and runs strong"
I know this is not a lot of info, but any help wound be nice.

Depends on how much he's going to pay you to take if off his hands. If these are the "visable" problems you can count on thousands of dollars worth of other stuff you'll find a week later. It appears that this guy didn't pay the cost of maintenance and you would have to pick up the tabs on his years of neglect.

Someone from State Porsche Protection Services should step in and force this guy to take a Porsche-raising class.

nothing you stated wrong with that car that would necessitate parting it out...
on the other hand... as stated above, this may just be the tip of the iceberg, have one of the GA 928 guys go take a look at it.... Wally... paging Wally

Buy the BEST 928 you can afford! Do a search, and also read the new visitor FAQS....you will find that a "BARGAIN" $2500 928 can easily eat up $10k in repairs/maint and be worth $3500 when u are through!

walk away... that's at least $1k too much especially not knowing any mechanical history
course if it's a Euro with the 300hp engine you may want to offer him $1k

$2k is the equivalent of a small down payment for what you'll spend to get that thing going!

With that much cosmetic neglect - it is a sure bet that it needs a BOATLOAD of mechanical.

TB/WP = $1200+ - UNLESS you can do it yourself

Torque convertor - GOOD LUCK getting someone to work on the tranny
if the Torque Tube...$1000+

just for starters....

Don't do it.

Tell him you won't charge him to take it off his hands

He told me in our last conversation that it was a steal at $2000 and he is firm on that price. I told him good luck and walked away.

Patrick - It may hurt now - but you made the CORRECT decision on this one!

Congrats on the self-control!
