Yes I was cleaning everything in the tank, including the fuel sender unit. I was proud of myself for removing a ton of gum without damaging the inner workings of the fuel sender unit, and wham... broke that ultra thin filament inside the unit, which could turn into a $100 mishandling mistake. What is it made of so I can replace it? It is obviously conductive material with lubricant properties like dental floss, only a million times thinner!!! Any help for identifying a replacement filament would be greatly appreciated.
Bad luck! I managed without breaking mine....My measurements show the 2 runs of wire total around 80 ohms - suggest you measure the intact run from top to bottom and see what resistance you get. As to where to get a repalcement - cant help there I'm afraid.

Not sure what it's made of, could be platinum and if so John Speake might have some. If it broke right at the end as mine did you can resolder it .
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I wasn't able to measure the resistance across with the tools I have, but I'll take your word for it. As for my soldering skills, they're meek... I'll have to take it to someone who solders daily for a living... but what kind of solder should be used? anything special?
thanks!!
