I'm attempting to return the car's stereo system back to the original Monterey head unit, fader, and factory amp. I've studied the WSM wiring diagram and I've got everything figured out except this - in the pic below, there is a big white disconnected connector. One side has a big red wire which shows 12V constant (obviously a battery connection), and the other side has one big and one little wire sandwiched together which show no voltage. Currently, the aftermarket head unit that's in the car receives no constant hot (neither does the clock or the interior lights). The wiring diagram appears to show this thing connected to a noise suppressor. The PET diagram calls it an "interference suppression choke".
Before I spend $55 on the noise suppressor, do I really need it? If I hook it up, along with the amp, will my constant hot to the radio start working?
And btw, if anyone has a factory amp or a Monterey they want to sell, please PM me. I also placed wanted ads in the classifieds. Thanks!
Save $55 for something else. Get some heavy gauge wire, put spade ends on it and put the ends into the white connector. You should be able to find a used amp on ebay. If you are interested I have the wiring to connect your radio to the stock amp. You just need to splice them in.
