Default Catalytic Converter Clogged

Is there an easy way to tell if my Cat it clogged? Car is an 84 euro with no O2 sensor. I suspect it's clogged as the car was and may still be in a very poor state of tune. The car revs fine in neutral, just when i put it in gear, there is no acceleration and stumbling. I've changed and checked many ignition components and suspect the cat is part of the problem. Any way to tell if it's clogged or not without ripping it off? THanks.

I don't think there's any way to check without pulling it. At SITM last year - we did this during the tech session in DR's garage. he pulled it and took a shop vac and hooked the hose to the exhaust to blow thru it to see how much air would pass.

Temperature differential between front and back of cat should be no more than 30 degrees F. on a warm engine and cat.

ok, i may have been wrong on the revving. i went back out there and revved the engine as much as i could. it revved to 4200 or so max, then bogged down to 3300 or so. i couldn't get the revs beyond that. i can also hear a metal rattling around in there. so is this almost certain the cat? also, if i replace it, will a new one just clog up again? i don't think any shops will just bypass it for me.

You can get a good used cat from 928 International - then have your local muffler shop install it.
