More than a few years ago, a friend with a 911 brought it by for a look-see. I drove it, pronounced it way down on power. Seems that sometime in its history, the throttle cable was either adjusted way loose or somehow it was stretched a lot. Result is the same-- accelleration was way off. A little adjustment as part of the tune-up procedure, also ran the valves, new plugs (they eat a LOT of plugs...), and it was like new. Car lasted less than a month, backed into the inside rail of a freeway ramp. Whooda thunked that would happen...?? And that was a somewhat adult driver.

As a young Porsche owner, my car was cursed with a VW engine. I bought the car with no engine for cheap, and the VW was all I could afford. After a couple years I was able to find an engine out of a wrecked 912, the perfect mate to my 356SC Cab. A couple teenage years with 60 horsepower taught me a lot about the car, so that when the 98 horsepower monster motor went in, I was ready. Never got a speeding ticket in it with the VW motor, as hard as I tried...

Is there any convenient way to put a NA 944 engine in a 928, just for a few years??

Bob,

When I was 16, I bought my first P-car. It was a '67 VW Beetle with a 1300 cc engine. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 48 HP. It would top out at 70mph going east, 60 mph going west (5 mph prevailing west wind on the prairies). I would just run wide open on the highway. Couldn't get a ticket if I wanted to.

I spun a rod, rebuilt the engine in my dad's garage and gained 10 mph each way! I sold it before winter came back since it didn't have a gas heater to offset the minus 30 degree weather in Winterpeg.
