I was Mr. responsible too but everytime I got to drive moms car (72 charger 400 4 barrel, slap stick) I was tearing things up. It is just a natural curiousity and a part of growing up. Some of us got lucky and others didnt.

I bought my 928 about 1 1/2 years ago at the age of 18, my first car being a 180 HP Volvo. I have always respected the speed, power and class of the car, but for the most part, never did anything TOO stupid. He will be fine in it i am sure, but I agree with whoever said "no boy passengers" that has bad news all over it.

Even those times I was "unlucky" (i.e., stupid, unimaginative, incompetent, dangerous and bitten by it) I was extremely lucky. Never anything worse than property damage or minor injury to me. I sure hadn't done a thing to earn or deserve my good fortune. Glad for it though.
I vote for one of the hidden monitoring systems, at least for awhile, until there's a reality check. Lucky Kid, though.

There is a system out there that is plugged into the car and info such as speeds and acceleration can be downloaded by the parent. I saw it on a news show some time back. I think Mrak is on the right track with taking away some of the timing....He knows his kid best and will make the best decision.

Nothing better than a multi 928 family! I suggest enrolling your son in a driving school for kids. Bondurant has a great course. Send him over to AZ and we'll take care of him for you.
I view driving education like sex education. You know driving happens, you may as well be prepared! The more respect your son has for driving and the car, the safter he will be. The most dangerous kids are those who think they know what they're doing, but don't.

I bestowed the honor of sHARk ownership upon my son Zack at the ripe old age of 16.
I bought Snowball's White 81', auto in extremely fine condition.
I posted the before and after pics thru Ernest on the "I got hit today...rant... post but they are no longer there.
Essentially, I bought the White on the 19th of March up in Jacksonhole, Wyoming. Drove it back to Midland in 19 - 21 hours counting pit stops, meals and breaks.
Zack was driving with me for a day then soloed on Saturday.
Within two weeks it was damn near totaled. Combination freak/dumb accident. Maybe Ern will post those flicks again.
It took a lot of work, about $1200.00 cash (most going to frame shop). I had lucked out by getting great deals from Brendan C., Dave, and others on the Renn years earlier when setting up my spares shelf - I highly recommend this-. Just the savings in Fog/turnsignal/runinnng lights on the front probably saved me $700.00 or more.
End result we shared some quality (bitchin and moanin') time together.
Zack learned a little about wrenching and body panel sealing/alignment.
He sacrificed a little skin and blood to the Germanic Maintenance Gods and realized that he was the owner of a limited edition, still competitive, piece of automotive history.
SADLY (IMO).
By and large he drives like an old lady since the wreak.

I started Porsche life as a double 944 owner. The first 928 I went to look at to buy, was a 1982 burgundy car with linen interior locally that had been wrecked. The owner had loaned the car to his honors student son who had forced it inbetween two other cars at a stopsign and thereby killed both sides, as well as then t-boning another car, thereby destroying the frame.
I learnt to drive in a 1967 911T and drove her over a kerb in a parking lot, but other than that drove like a grandma. I think if my dad had given her to me as he always had promised, I would have likely driven way too fast, but because of the car's incredible safety, I would have been fine. If you can brake fast enough, and if you pay enough attention, you are OK as a kid.

We will be doing a driving school together and I am also doing some things to the car but I can't go into the details here. I do appreciate all the feedback and it is certainly an issue my wife and I are very concerened with. This car may be his for a very short time. As I told my wife I was buying it anyway so he can drive it for a day , a week or who know's how long. That will be up to him and his actions.

Good price for wheels & tires!! What size & type of Kumhos does it come with?
Its safe to say that your son understands the resonsibility of driving & its unlikely he'll be able to "pull the wool" over your eye!!! Worse case scenario he gets a ticket (or you catch him speeding) & you get another 928..for the wife this time?

So for Marks sake i guess we keep the ideas of HP restraint stamped "classified".
Before we know it we may have a new member saying that he has timing issues...or his car is a bit slow on the top end.

Did someone say $2000.00 for insurance?
After Zack's memorable driving moment he's still under $1500.00 a year and that's with Allstate.
Mark,
In any case, unless he start's running moonshine, most anyone including a 16 year old can look at a sHARk and just know...
How darn lucky they would be to drive one -let alone own one-!
It'll either work out or it won't ... I'm betting the privlege won't go to his head
and he won't be racing every ricer that spins up the squirrels.
If I'm wrong... simply park it and take the key's for a month.
The bottom will drop out of his world for one lunar cycle and a change in behavior/attitude will be forthcoming.
On the other hand it's still a lead by example kinda thing you might have to curb the Bwahaaaaaaaa yourself.
No matter what he'll never forget his first car, nor, the Dad who gave it to him. PRICELESS

I gave up aggressive driving on the street many years ago. It is one things racing has done for me.[/QUOTE]

This Saturday my son dropped my wife off at a Kentucky Derby party I was at and got a huge response. All the girls wanted a ride and all the men wanted to borrow it. He was very proud.
