Default Firewall Access?

Hi all.
As you probably know I'm working on my nitrous install. I was wondering where I might be able to pop a few wires through the firewall on the drive's side (LHD)? I started looking for a grommet, but couldn't see anything obvious.

Cool Firewall harness

There is a wire harness that goes through the firewall just to the left of the steering column. I got five wires and my vacuume line through there for my guage set-up. Start with a coat hanger with the end smoothed over so you don't cut into any wires then use it to pull a cord thru then the cord to pull the wires thru. DON'T try to pull the wires thru all at once, stagger them on the cord so the further you pull the more wires go into the grommet. A little dish soap to lubricate things also helps.

Thanks Jim. I'll give it a try.

Be careful not to disturb the grommet too much or displace it or stress it. I had 2 miniscule wires pulled through a grommet in the firewall and about 2500 miles later I had a wiring fire with a cluster***k of melted wiring where the grommet had fallen out and the wires had rubbed against the firewall and presumably chafed themselves to the point of starting a melt. 1 1/2 years later I am still chasing the electrical gremlin in there. I have gotten to the point that I now disconnect the ground strap whenever I stop the car for more than 4 hours. You don't want to go there.

Well the GTS must be different, because I got under there last night, and couldn't see it. I think I'll drill my own hole around there. Just need to get a grommet. Thanks anyway.

I pulled the wires through the firewall on my '87 S4 for my SR1 through the same hole the main harness goes through, in the passenger footwell above the relay board. I crammed a mechanic's helper (one of those really long gripper things) through the hole and cut a very small hole in the grommet/gasket setup where it bulged through on the other side. Grabbed the wire lubed with WD40 and it came right through. It worked very well and was very minimal on "damage".

I used the hood release cable (euro headlamp adjuster tubes) grommet for my SRX install.

It's easy to get to, too, after you remove the dead pedal.
