My rear wiper bailed out yesterday. I can still hear the motor running and the linkage is hooked up fine and dandy. I took apart gear housing and removed the cog which is driven by the driveshaft/worm gear of the motor. This cog has an axle in the middle which drives the linkage for the wiper. The cog spins freely on this axle. I'm guessing that's the problem. That is, the motor turns the wormgear, the wormgear turns the cog, but the cog does not turn its axle. Anybody dealt with this one?
Thanks guys. My wiper arm is tight on its shaft and the little arm does not move. I'm pretty sure the problem is that this cog should not rotate freely on its axle. I'm hoping someone has taken apart the motor/gear assembly and can tell me if the metal axle spins freely in the hole in the cog.
Hi again - Well Greggles sent me his old rear wiper assembly which has different issues than mine did. Thanks Greggle! Putting the good parts from each together, I think I have what I need now... But now I have another problem. The motor moves the wiper back an fourth some random amount before stopping in a random spot. It should do four wipes and park on the left, but I get maybe 2.5 wipes or maybe 3.75, 1.25 etc. I never know where the wiper will stop. Could I have something in wrong? This is like the steering wheel in my pants - it's drivin' me nuts.
