Sorry to intrude on the 928 forums, but
I decided to let my 944 go. Since I bought an 88 924s earlier this year, I don't drive ithe 944 much. I do prefer the 944 styling over the 924, but this 924s is a much nicer car. I sold the 944 last night.
I have been eyeing a 928 for quite a while now. I've gone to look at this particular one twice now and wonder if it would be a good use of the funds I just received from the 944. Here are the details:
1990 928S4
automatic
185k miles, but 1 owner and he has a HUGE stack of receipts for all maintenance it has ever needed. Mechanically, he spared no expense in caring for it.
Paint is oxidized and faded, might look nicer buffed out, might need resprayed.
Runs and shifts very well. Very strong and comfortable car.
I think the price he is asking is very nice. I'd rather not say exactly how much, in case I decide to buy it in order to resell it for a profit. Let's just say that I can almost buy it for what I got for my 944.
What would you guys be willing to pay for such a car and would you pull the trigger if you had this opportunity.
If I don't, I'll probably put $1k or so of this money into the 924s in upgrades like MSD, new tires, stereo, etc.
What do you think?

....very, very few people make money buying then selling a 928....very few. And what do you do if the T-belt lets go,trans lets go,radiator leaks, steering rack leaks,Lh computer fails.........minimum is about $500,trans is 2k ,t-belt $2,000 to $7,000. When you consider how quickly your "investment" can increase I suggest you buy a 928 because you really want to own one and keep it for a long time. Trying to "flip" them will show you how thin the market is. Porsche stopped making 928s for one reason and one reason alone.......they could not sell them ! which does not mean it is not a GREAT car simply not one that is in demand. ....in addition to these comments note that the vast majority of 928 buyers will not consider one with much over 100,000 miles let alone nearly 200,000 miles. That car will be a very hard sell. And until it sells you risk all the potential disasters listed above and more ! One long term customer tried to sell his 86.5 5 speed 185,000 miles he got one half hearted offer of $3,000 but the guy never called back he gave up selling it after a few months.

Consider getting a copy of David Hemmings' new 928 Buyers Guide. This book was written by one of the UK Porsche Club's 928 experts and is pretty comprehensive in how to evaluate a potential buy. This way you have a much better idea of what you are getting into.
But as Jim says, it's unlikely for you to make a profit by reselling it - esepecially given the high mileage it's not an easy car to sell, but it might still be a very nice one to enjoy.

The Bottom Feeder says $4500. The car isn't going anywhere fast. High mileage, faded paint, so it shows poorly. Take your time, look around. 90 has airbags and digi-dash, some like it some don't.
