Default F1 Race in Imola and 928

Ok, if Randy reads this he will know there is no 928 content except that they are cars and F1 involves cars. I'm in Italy right now and saw Schumacher finish a close second to Alonso in F1 yesterday.

The cars are LOUD. LOUD, LOUD, LOUD!!! wow. amazing stuff. it was an awesome race and I recommend it to everyone. not many porsches in Imola btw.

I did go to ferrari museum where there was an f40, f50 and enzo in one room. additionally the spiritual successor to the 928 (italian versoin) the 575 M and the 612 Scagletti. the Scag was not pretty, but the 575 still is.

ok, wife angry that I'm on the internet, gotta go.

driving a renault megane 1.9--I'm missing about 300HP!!!

Cool deal Seth !!!!!!!!!!! The 550/575 is one of my all time favorite cars. The body lines are virtually perfect. Not a big fan of the 612 either, although the 456 isn't too bad. Have fun on your trip!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks! Wife just succumbed to 2 hours of wine tasting!! he he. Now free to plan night of gelato and pasta!!

The ferrari museum was AWESOME.

I've seen so few porsches since i've been here and not a single 928. In fact 2 911's and 1 boxster and 2 cayennes in 4 days. very odd b/c where i live in ca (bay area) they are like honda accords.

I watched the race on TV yesterday - I would have LOVED to see it in person. I was pulling for M. Schumacher - great ending nonetheless.

Yes those cars are very loud, I heard that they did a demo at Indy with a Cart car and an F1. You couldn't hear the Indy car over the F1 car even when the F1 car was on the other side of the track. You can hear an F1 car from about 10 km or 6 miles away. Depending on the landscape. My friend had an early one and he got banned from a racetrack as the racetrack had a decibil limit.

P.S not looking forward to when they go to 2.4 liter engines next year, also get rid of those stupid grooved tyres and allow tyre changes.

Seth:

You are not completely OT. There is a 928/F1 connection.

For several years the FIA used 928's as the official safety/medical cars. If you watch tapes of the races back during the Senna & Proust era you'll catch an occassional glimpse of a 928.

I heard the 2004 Ferrari F-1 at Laguna Seca last year. Un-real, otherworldly sound. Deafeningly loud from any spot on the track. Sounded like a monster from a 50's horror film. If I didn't know what it was, I would hide until I knew it was gone. I loved it. I want one.

Seth, I have a challenge for you!

I used to drive a Megane and after 5 hours of full throttle driving on the autobahn or autostrada the headers would crack.. Let's see if your car will do the same?

ok..this is interesting, because I'm actively planning to attend the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in September. It would be my first time. ANY tips would be very much appreciated regarding travel, tickets, etc etc...

Thanks!

I wish someone would buy my ticket to the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on June 10, 11 and 12 (just a week before the U.S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis). It is in grandstand 10 which has been sold out for a few weeks, and has a great view near the pits and turns 1 and 2. I'll make someone a good deal the closer to the event it gets, that's for sure, because there are no refunds and I won't be going to Montreal, just Indianapolis. Go to both and buy my ticket for a savings. (But take your motor home or lots of cash 'cause Montreal hotels are either expensive or sold out. Well, there is always KOA.....!!

Ron,

Holy smokes! Is it really 2 hours to Montreal from Burlington VT? My Brother-In-Law lives in Burlington and I thought I could stay at his house and drive to Montreal each day. I'm sure that I can beat Mapquest's time, but by how much?

I just checked Chester to Burlington and it says just over 3 hours. I can do it 2 hours 15 minutes

Anyway, I might have interest, IF the wife would allow it

Seth -

That was the best F1 race I've seen in a loooong time. It was pretty exciting to watch Schumacher cutting laps 2 sec. faster than 1st & 2nd place. As he was closing in on 2nd and the tifosi started going nuts, I was yelling at the TV, "SETH YOU LUCKY BASTARD!!!" I would have given anything to be in the stands at the Tosa hairpin with all the other lunatics.

928 content: I was watching an archive race of the German GP for 500cc motorcycles from 1992 and you can clearly see a white 928 being used as a safety car at the Hockenheimring. It was Kibort's car, I'm pretty sure.
